The 8th annual Eastern Sierra Community Auction night is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 5:45 pm to 8:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church Community Center, 205 N. Fowler St. This will be a free evening of desserts, appetizers, door prizes and coffee with both a live auction and silent auction. Curt Van Nest is scheduled to be the night’s professional auctioneer and Chuck Kilpatrick will be the master of ceremonies.
Event organizers are encouraging everyone to put the night on your calendar now so as not to miss out on the fun. There will be tasty treats, lots of free door prizes to win and many wonderful items to bid on. Credit cards will be accepted. Please call the church office at (760) 872-7701 in advance if you would like to make a childcare reservation.
The proceeds from this event will benefit Bishop UMC to off-set overhead costs for United Methodist Social Services. These much-needed community services include the Soup Kitchen which feeds the hungry; the Shower Ministry which provides hot showers for the homeless; the Friendship Center which provides respite care for people suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia; and Re-Entry and Recovery, which provides support and housing services to persons in substance abuse recovery and recently released from jail. In addition, 10% of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to support the National Wounded Warrior Center in Mammoth in partnership with Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra.
If you have something to donate for the auction, it would be greatly appreciated. Both local businesses and individuals can donate and support these important services. Suggestions are gift certificates, merchandise, free services, lessons, time shares or any other items that could be auctioned, please contact the Methodist Church office at (760) 872-7701 or John Camphouse at (760) 873-8354.
There will be free door prizes presented throughout the evening and attendees will have an opportunity to view the items before the auction begins. Among the many Auction items are original artworks created by Linda Arnold and Rhondda Saunders, a beautiful silk Persian rug, a colorful handmade quilt, wine baskets, children’s books and stuffed animals, and a collection of gifts for the pampered pooch. A more extensive list will soon be published soon and made available online at www.bishopumc.org. Organizers have noted that everyone in our Eastern Sierra community is welcome to come and enjoy an evening of fun, laughs, good food and seeing old friends and meeting new friends.
