Level 0 Water Conservation Measures
Mammoth Community Water District Board approves the reduction of Water Conservation Measures from Level 1 to Level 0 for the 2024 summer irrigation season as a result of
increased snow water content at Mammoth Pass.

Mammoth Lakes, California – At the March 21 Board of Directors meeting, the District’s Board voted unanimously to reduce the District’s current Water Conservation Level from Level 1 to Level 0. This move was in response to above average snow water content reported on Mammoth Pass, which the District’s relies on for the community’s surface water supply. April 1st marks the end of the official water year, with current snow/water equivalent at Mammoth Pass reported at 107% of normal. While the Mammoth Lakes Basin is fortunate to have more water this year, it is important to remember that the state is still feeling the effects from multiple year and wide-spread drought conditions. Full groundwater aquifer recharge will require multiple wet or normal years.
“Delivering surface water is always prioritized before supplementing or switching entirely to groundwater. District staff will continue to monitor water supplies closely and will advise the Board and our community as needed,” states Clay Murray, Superintendent of Operations. “Customers can do their part by following appropriate irrigation schedules and conservation requirements.”
Level 0 Water Restrictions include:

No person shall cause or permit runoff or ponding of District-supplied water as a result of landscape irrigation.

Hoses connected to an irrigation device must be equipped with a timer that will automatically shut-off the watersupply after a set amount of time. Timers may not be set for more than two hours.

No irrigation is permitted between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. Customers may irrigate in compliance with theirrigation schedule based on the property’s address.
Customers are reminded that, consistent with the District’s permanent water conservation measures, irrigation is limited to three days per week. Addresses ending in an even number may water Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Odd numbered addresses may water Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Furthermore, all hoses must be equipped with an automatic shutoff device. To encourage conservation, free automatic shut off devices, showerheads, faucet aerators, and dye tablets to test toilets for leaks are available at the District offices. Rebates are available for replacement toilets, dishwashers, and clothes washers. The District also offers a rebate of $2/square foot when replacing turf grass with water-efficient landscaping.
We would like to thank our customers in advance for their compliance with regulations and efforts to reduce water demand.
