As Northern Inyo Healthcare District’s Pharmacy undergoes relocation, the accompanying construction work will require a re-routing of pedestrian traffic within the hospital, impacting some patient and visitor access.

Hospital officials say that for the next two weeks the corridor connecting the two-story hospital with the older Administration building will need to be closed. All hospital services will remain open and available to the community during this time.

Patients and visitors needing to gain access from NIHD’s Main Lobby area to either Diagnostic Imaging Services, Cardiopulmonary, or any of the Administration offices, including Billing and Medical Records, should arrive 10-15 minutes early in order to safely travel the planned detour.

Those with mobility issues who have scheduled appointments in these areas are encouraged to contact Admissions so NIHD team members can assist them upon arrival.

Please remember NIHD team members are always available for assistance and navigation help for patients and visitors – just ask.

The planned detour will take patients, visitors and staff down the main entrance hallway, past Blood Draw, Surgery & Recovery, and the Emergency Department, outdoors to the rear of the hospital. Signage will guide people to the nearby back door of Diagnostic Imaging and back into the Administration building near Human Resources and Cardiopulmonary. NIHD staff will be watching for anyone who needs directions or assistance in reaching their destination.

The Pharmacy relocation project will result in a larger, more modern facility that will benefit hospital patients and allow the NIHD pharmacy team to resume compounding. Compounding is the practice in which licensed pharmacists, or those under their supervision, combine, mix or alter ingredients of a drug to create medication tailored to meet the needs of individual patients. It is a key component for the hospital’s Infusion Service Department, where intravenous therapy and some chemotherapy is offered.
