Caltrans has closed Monitor Pass/State Route 89 in northern Mono County due to the Tamarack Fire. The fire, which originally started near the town of Markleeville, has spread to parts of Nevada and is now estimated to be around 43,900 acres in size.

Sonora Pass/State Route 108 remains open as an alternate route over the Sierra Nevada. There is currently no timetable for when Monitor Pass will reopen.

U.S. 395 remains closed at the junction of State Route 89 to the Nevada State Line because of the fire. Travelers heading north to Nevada are being detoured to State Route 182 in Bridgeport toward Yerington.

For the latest information on road closures, please visit the Caltrans QuickMap site at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or download the app to your smartphone. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
