FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mono County Urges Residents to Take

Winter Readiness Survey and Sign Up for READY Mono

MONO COUNTY, Calif. (NOVEMBER 6, 2025) – The Mono County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is urging Mono County residents to take a few minutes to complete its Winter Readiness Survey. The confidential survey is a crucial tool designed to improve community safety, enhance the department’s emergency response effectiveness, and ensure residents are prepared for the potentially severe conditions of a Mono County winter.

”Winter preparedness is a shared responsibility,” said Chris Mokracek, Director, Office of Emergency Management. “By taking this quick survey, you’re actively helping us tailor our resources, outreach, and response strategies to the unique needs of your community. Your answers directly translate into better services, faster alerts, and a more resilient Mono County when the snow starts falling.”

The anonymous survey focuses primarily on understanding community preparedness gaps and resource needs, which allows the OEM to refine its operations and community support efforts. Specifically, the survey aims to:

Assess Community Preparedness Gaps: The results will identify what percentage of the population currently has an emergency kit, an alternate heat source, or a plan for power outages. This data is vital for identifying common knowledge gaps and resource shortages, allowing the department to tailor public awareness campaigns and resource distribution efforts.

Understand Resource Needs: By knowing how many people are likely to be isolated, lose power, or require assistance with heating, the department can more accurately estimate the demand for critical services like warming shelters, food and water supplies, and emergency transportation.

Promote Self-Sufficiency: The act of taking the survey encourages residents to think proactively about their own preparedness, like checking emergency kits or reviewing their home’s heating safety, a key goal of emergency management.

A core component of the survey is the reminder to sign up for READY Mono, the official County emergency notification system. Ready Mono provides critical, timely alerts directly to residents about vital safety information, including:

Blizzard warnings or severe weather.

Road closures and travel advisories.

Power outage updates.

Warming shelter locations.

READY Mono is the most effective way for the County to reach you with time-sensitive information during an emergency.

Take the Survey Today. The survey closes November 30.
