BISHOP – Today work began on the Northbound Keough’s Thin Blanket Project on U.S. 395 in Inyo County.

This highway maintenance project will apply a .15’ hot-mix asphalt overlay to the northbound lanes of the highway between Big Pine and Bishop, extending the life of the pavement. The project area will extend for approximately 13 miles from 1.2 miles north of the junction with State Route 168 E to 0.1 miles south of Warm Springs Road.

One northbound lane will be open at all times during construction, which is scheduled for 40 working days. The speed limit through the project area will be reduced to 55 miles per hour for the duration of the $5.2 million project.

The Northbound Keough’s Thin Blanket Project is funded by SB 1, which provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
