News release

MONO COUNTY— The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will reopen the road from the winter closure gate on State Route 120 W (Tioga Pass) to the east entrance of Yosemite National Park today at noon. Caltrans crews have completed ice, snow, and debris removal, as well as rockfall, guardrail, road and culvert repair work on this 13-mile route. Each year, Caltrans crews work diligently to reopen this section of the pass with the traveling public’s safety in mind.

Caltrans District 9 maintains roadway conditions on Tioga Pass from U.S. Hwy 395, west to the east entrance of Yosemite National Park, where Tioga Road begins. Snow removal and road repairs within the park on Tioga Road are currently ongoing, with no estimated date of reopening.

As winter conditions still exist, Caltrans reminds drivers to carry chains and to be prepared for winter driving conditions with a full tank of gas, blankets, water, food, a shovel, gloves, a flashlight, and sand or kitty litter to provide traction in case your vehicle becomes stuck.

For the latest highway information please visit the Caltrans QuickMap site at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
