STEVE POLTZ

Some people start life with a plan. Not Steve. He opens himself up to the universe in a way most of us will never be loose enough to achieve, and the universe responds with a wink, a seemingly bottomless well of inspiration, and the talent to truly connect with an audience. His songs range from gentle, repetitive melodies to syncopated grooves to relaxed vibes. With a cult following that includes fellow musicians, regular folks and festival goers who stumble onto his performances, there’s no common denominator to Steve’s fans. When he comes to your town, he’ll say, as he does every night, “This is the best show I’ve ever played.” And hell, maybe it just is. Ultimately, Steve never needed a plan. He’s something of a natural, after all.

FULA BROTHERS

Fula Brothers are a burst of unbridled creative musicianship and happy making. Hailing from Mali and the US, together they weave West African hunters harp, fingerstyle guitar, drums, vocals, and a bounty of improvisation into an ecstatic groove based dialogue which the heart – and the feet – cannot resist. Fourteen years ago, when Malian kamale ngoni (hunters harp) player Mamadou Sidibe and American guitarist Walter Strauss began their interplay of West African hunter’s harp and finger-style guitar, they found a deep, soulful music that was both ancient and fresh. Intertwining melodic grooves, joyful improvisational dialogue, songs in two languages – it’s intoxicating. Add the wide-as-the-world rhythmic capacity of ace percussionist-drummer Brian Rice… and good luck keeping a smile from your face and a joyous lift from your step.

HARRY MANX

“Mysticssippi” blues man Harry Manx has been called an “essential link” between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. He has created a unique sound that is hard to forget and deliciously addictive to listen to. Harry forged his distinctive style by studying at the feet of the masters, first as a sound man in the blues clubs of Toronto during his formative years and then under a rigorous tutelage with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt in India. Bhatt is the inventor of the 20-stringed Mohan Veena, which has become Harry’s signature instrument. Blend Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues, add a sprinkle of gospel and throw in some compelling grooves. It’s a recipe that goes down easy and leaves you hungry for more.

Thank you and stay safe,
