INYO COUNTY – State Route 190 will reopen through Death Valley National Park tonight at 5:00 pm. The highway was shut down two weeks ago due to flash flooding and debris flows. Caltrans maintenance crews have been working to clear the road and shore up miles of shoulders that were damaged or eroded by flood waters.

Work on State Route 190 is not finished. There will be limited shoulder parking throughout Death Valley for the next few months as crews continue to fill in the sections that washed away during the flooding. Drivers may encounter lane closures and one-way traffic control throughout August and into the fall to allow for these shoulder repairs. Additionally, Caltrans is asking that drivers reduce their speed through the park.
