Thirteen months have passed since the Round Fire scorched 7,000 acres north of Bishop, destroying 40 structures in Swall Meadows and Paradise with no official cause reported by CalFire.
That cause may be coming soon, according to Public Information Officer Liz Brown. According to Brown, the investigation package will include a report on cost recovery, listing the total damages including infrastructure and man power. “The package can’t be released” until that element is completed, she said. “We’re not there yet.”

Another Swall fire today and still no official communications… Thanks to Facebook for fire info, what little there was. There’s been nothing from authorities. And the cause, don’t hold your breath for that announcement…
Along with the cause hopefully there will be directions for preventative measures to ensure a disaster like this cannot happen again. Homeowners can only do so much to protect their properties and since the fire, rebuilt power transmission lines and firewater systems are pretty much the same design as before. It’s doubtful our community is any better prepared and protected than it was last February.
