(US Census – July 13,2020) MONO COUNTY! BE COUNTED! MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
As of today, only 19.1 percent of Mono County households have responded to the 2020 Census. The statewide average is 63.2 percent.
Results from the 2020 Census underway now will help local and state officials plan funding for Mono County health care services for the next decade. Hospitals, health care clinics, and health care programs such as Medicaid and Medicare for people over age 65 are among the many public health care services that use population statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Statistics from the 2020 Census will also inform how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds are spent every year for the next 10 years for other critical public services such as schools, libraries, emergency response, roads and bridges and for hospitals and health insurance.
The good news is that responding to the census has never been easier. People can now respond online at 2020census.gov, by phone (844) 330-2020 or by completing/mailing back paper questionnaires.
The once in a decade census that counts everyone who lives in the U.S. is what enables communities plan for the future. That is why it is so important to respond to the 2020 Census as soon as you can.
Health care programs informed by census statistics touch everyone from the old to the young, people of all incomes and backgrounds. Many of these programs are the lifelines that communities are depending on during the coronavirus pandemic. These programs are feeding children even though schools are closed, providing health insurance for low-income people and those over 65, and supporting first responders.
On August 11th, census takers will begin the operation of visiting and interviewing households that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census. All census takers will be trained on social distancing protocols. They will be issued personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow local guidelines for their use.
