WASHINGTON – Today Representative Kevin Kiley (R-CA) issued the following statement regarding the Newsom Administration’s stunning admission that Medicaid in the state, known as Medi-Cal, is insolvent. The Newsom Administration is seeking a $3.44 billion loan after the costs of covering undocumented immigrants ballooned to $9.5 billion this year.

“Governor Newsom’s reckless policy of offering Medi-Cal to every illegal immigrant in the state is jeopardizing access for legal California residents. If the Legislature refuses to rein Newsom in, we are prepared to do so in Congress,” said Rep. Kiley.

Earlier this year, Rep. Kiley introduced the No Medicaid for Illegal Immigrants Act to ensure that taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits are preserved for those who lawfully qualify, prioritizing the needs of American citizens and legal residents while promoting fairness and fiscal responsibility.
