Inyo County Sheriff’s Office press release
At approximately 8:00pm Friday night Inyo County Sheriff’s Dispatch was notified of a fire (visible from Highway 395) south of Manzanar Reward Mine.
Responding agencies discovered a vehicle on an unpaved and remote road, later determined to be a late model convertible Ford Mustang, fully engulfed in flames.

We are asking for the public’s assistance. If anyone has any information that could assist in this investigation, please call 760-878-0383.
Updates will be released as they become available.

I don’t think anyone realizes how many people are addicted to heroin and meth in this town anymore? Especially our young adults. Im aware of the city life I was raised there , moved here to get away from high crime and which in the past four years has picked up drastically, my neighbors house was broke into the other day in broad daylight, when u use to be able leave doors unlocked in this beautiful town….oh I’m sorry u don’t think we have gangs here? Maybe not like in the city but there are …wake up …this town is not the same and is getting worse period!
The facts….What your saying ISN’T the facts…..very small drug problem around here….and where it is,we all should know to avoid those areas at all costs, which is easy to do….if you think it’s bad here,go down south to Lancaster,Palmdale….or head out of state and up to Oregon and see what it’s like…and,in the Antelope Valley south and up in Oregon, dangerous drug users and dealers….here in Inyo, harmless, goofy tweekers and lazy pot heads…..unless you choose to go to the bad areas….
True ! happy heaven? Not! Try drug infested and unsafe for years now….
seriously dude? We live in one of the safest places in California and probably the US too. We have so little violent crime, we don’t even realize it. No place is going to have zero crime, or even violent crime, but we’re damn blessed to have as little as we do.
sugarmags….It’s probably just one of those people,in this election year, seeing things in the U.S. of A. as totally out of control with crime and violence the past 7 1/2 years,to where we should be afraid to walk out of our front doors in the morning,in fear of being shot,mugged,car-jacked….or worse….and waiting on the white knight with the orange face to come riding in to save the day on November 8th.
The facts, be fair. You may be partly correct about the drug problems , but compared to most other places I have been, this is really a great place to safely raise a kid. How many counties can report zero gang violence?
Our bit of heaven seems to be vanishing. Tears for the person lost and the family. So sad.
Bit of Heaven .
It never was , You either choose to live in the real world.
Or a Happy Happy BUBBLE.
Can’t believe they would do that to a classic Mustang.
a late model car is a new car….as in ‘latest’ model. Something that is commonly driven by tourists in our area.
I guess could work if you wanted to kill someone, if you got them to rent the car in their name, then killed them in that car, there would be no way to trace you.
Other possibilities exists, hopefully time will tell as to what happened here. Sad either way.
Somebody is watching too much ID Channel…
I hope you crack yourself up with your weak attempt at tasteless humor. I doubt you’d find it amusing if it were your family member in that car. Oh, and “late mode”l doesn’t qualify as a classic.
