Community & Safety

  • Jury Duty Cancellation: A jury panel scheduled to appear in Independence on Monday, April 27, 2026, has been cancelled. Jurors are no longer required to attend.

  • Wolf Sighting Clarification: Previous reports of two wolves in the area were incorrect due to a technical malfunction in the CDFW tracking system, which mistakenly tracked a worker’s cell phone. There is currently only one wolf in the area, last spotted in the Paradise area.

  • Health District Meetings:

    • A special personnel committee meeting for the Southern Inyo Healthcare District will be held on Thursday, April 30, at 8:00 AM.

    • The 4th Annual Health and Community Fair is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Booth applications are due by May 27.

  • Track and Field Victory: The Bishop Union High School team saw a strong performance against Rosemond. The boys’ team won 108-16, while the girls’ team secured a close 59-56 victory. Notable individual winners included Carlos Sellas and Hunter Daly.

  • Sierra Wave Milestone: Sierra Wave Media is celebrating 30 years of reporting and has officially returned to its original name, Eastern Sierra News.
