Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil to Host First Quarterly Public Safety Roundtable with Law Enforcement in Senate District 4
SACRAMENTO – Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson) is announcing the launch of her quarterly public safety roundtable, scheduled to take place virtually on Tuesday, July 2. This significant event will bring together all 13 sheriffs and district attorneys from across Senate District 4, collectively representing nearly 25% of the state’s law enforcement leadership. This distinguished group is poised to be the leading voice in public safety and crime prevention.
RED, WHITE, AND BLUE LIGHTS: DRIVE SAFE THIS FOURTH OF JULY
In preparation for the Independence Day holiday, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is launching a statewide enforcement effort aimed at keeping the public safe on our roads. With unsafe speed being the main contributor to crashes in California, the CHP will focus on speed control and promoting safe driving practices throughout the holiday weekend.
“Speeding isn’t just breaking the law – it’s putting lives at risk. Every additional mile per hour reduces a driver’s reaction time and increases the severity of a crash,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. “We’re asking the public to choose safety over speed to ensure everyone gets home safely.”
Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil to Hold Press Gaggle Following Assembly Public Safety Committee Hearing on Senate Bill 268: Violent Felonies – Rape
SACRAMENTO – Senator Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson) will address the media outside Capitol Room 126 immediately following the Assembly Public Safety Committee hearing on Senate Bill (SB) 268. The Senator will be available for questions and will explain to media representatives why the bill will bring about crucial and long overdue legislative change.
SB 268 would classify the rape of an intoxicated person as a violent felony if the defendant caused the intoxication of the victim in order to assault them. This bill would ensure all victims of sexual assault receive equal protection under the law and that perpetrators who exploit a victim’s incapacitation face legal consequences to the fullest extent.
Mosquito fogging event: Bishop / Independence
Mosquito control ULV fogging applications are planned to be performed around the east side of Bishop and the Independence areas on Wednesday 7/3/2024. Crews will be using truck mounted fogging equipment to control excessive adult mosquitoes.
Fogging operations are planned to start in the morning between 4:00 and 6:00 am depending on the weather. If it is too windy or temperatures are too cold, fogging is not effective and will need to be postponed.

(BISHOP, Calif.) – For many, the Fourth of July presents an opportunity to gather with loved ones to celebrate our nation’s independence with food, fun and fireworks. Sierra Lifeflight, a REACH Air Medical Services (REACH) brand, wants to remind residents of Bishop of the importance of holiday safety while celebrating.

Mono County Residents and Business Owners Urged to Audit Broadband Connectivity
MONO COUNTY, Calif. (JULY 1, 2024) – High-speed, high-quality internet service is essential for participation in modern life. However, many rural and remote communities lack the proper level of service to adequately participate in today’s economy. To address this service inequity, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is collecting broadband consumer data information directly from users in an attempt to identify gaps in coverage, and shore up access and service. Mono County residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in this data collection to address local broadband inequities.

Trudy Lynn Richards November 29, 1956 – June 25, 2024
Trudy Lynn Richards passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of June 25, 2024, in her hometown of Bishop, CA, where she was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family and friends.
Trudy was born November 29, 1956, to Marian and Eldred Richards. Before settling down in her home of Bishop, CA, Trudy was a long time resident of Carson City, NV, where she worked in the Department of Motor Vehicles for over 20 years, a veteran employee. Trudy was a closet musician, playing the piano, saxophone, and even drums when the opportunity presented itself, truly a woman of many talents. She was often found either wandering her garden or at her other favorite hangout, the casino, lighting the place up with her glowing smile and radiating positivity. She was a skilled hand gamer, and even a world traveler, traveling to Australia with her family in 2003.
Pizona Fire daily update June 28, 2024
Since last night, the Pizona Fire located in the Adobe Hills of Mineral County, Nevada, grew several hundred acres to 2,002 acres. The fire continues to push northeast in pinyon-juniper and sagebrush vegetation, and has just run into the 2003 Sagehen Fire burn scar.
Air tankers and helicopters will continue with dropping retardant line to reinforce perimeter lines, assisting ground crews and smokejumpers encountering access challenges in extremely rough and inaccessible terrain.
Despite this, firefighters have managed to construct hand line approximately one-half of the way up both the left and right flanks of the fire, gaining 10% containment.
