Moderating Heat & Return of the Monsoon
Persistent heatwave will give way to increasing moisture this weekend. This will allow for scattered thunderstorms acrossthe area. Thunderstorm activity will tend to decrease in coverage from west to east next week.
KEY POINTS
Long-Duration Intense Heatwave will begin to subside over the weekend as increasing moisture moves in.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible in Northwest Arizona Friday, spreading west across much of the region overthe weekend.
Sudden wind gusts, lightning, and instances of flash flooding will be possible.
Dry lightning may cause additional fire starts across the Sierra.
Weather Forecast for July 11
Not much change in the forecast, with near record temperatures thru Friday. But the good news is that there should be an end to the heat. By Saturday a strong area of low pressure will nudge our heat dome East over 4-Corners and the Rockies.
Controller Cohen Issues June Cash Report
SACRAMENTO — State Controller Malia M. Cohen today released her monthly cash report covering the state’s General Fund revenues, disbursements and actual cash balance for the fiscal year through June 30, 2024. The state ended its fiscal year with $103.3 billion in unused borrowable resources, while fiscal year-to-date receipts exceeded, and disbursements were lower than the estimates contained in the Governor’s 2024-25 May Revision.
“California closed its 2023-24 fiscal year with a significant amount of available borrowable resources that served as a testament to the state’s ability to plan and prepare for a down cycle in the economy,” said Controller Cohen. “Looking ahead, the recently enacted state budget includes using a portion of the rainy day reserves, internal borrowing and fund shifts as balancing solutions. My office will continue to monitor the state’s actual cash balance in the treasury to ensure the state is maintaining sufficient amounts of cash to meet its payment obligations.”
Mosquito fogging event: Aspendell / Old Mammoth
Mosquito control ULV fogging applications are planned to be performed in Aspendell including the Cardinal Lodge areas on Thursday 7/11/2024. ULV fogging treatments are also scheduled for the Old Mammoth Lakes community on Friday 7/12/2024. Crews will be using truck mounted fogging equipment to control excessive adult mosquitoes.

Northern Inyo Healthcare District Embraces Outpatient Focus for Future Growth
Northern Inyo Healthcare District (NIHD) continues undertaking a multi-phase process to right-size and improve its operations to benefit its communities. Chief Executive and Financial Officer Stephen DelRossi shared that while the District has made significant progress away from bankruptcy and stabilized its finances, new challenges are on the horizon, with a shift toward a more outpatient-centric operations model, referred to as value-based healthcare.
“Buster” Walter Harold Yahn 1936-2023
Buster Yahn, 87, of Vista, CA passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023 surrounded by his three loving sons and wife Connie.
Buster was born April 1, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up and graduated Lone Pine High School. After High School he joined the US Air Force as a gunner in the B-36 and B-52 aircraft’s. He left the US Air Force to attend college at Orange Coast College, where he met his wife and mother of his three sons Barbara J. Yahn. Buster and Barbara went on to California State University of Long Beach where he graduated with a B.S. in Engineering. Buster went to work in the Aerospace industry with Rockwell International where he was instrumental in the design of the Apollo 11 ignition system as a Cryogenics Engineer.

What you need to know: Caltrans is awarding more than $51 million in planning grants to 89 projects to help make the state’s transportation system more resilient to the impacts of climate change. Of the total, $48.3 million (94 percent) will benefit disadvantaged communities.
