In as long as many can remember there have been very few, if any, rallies for a Democratic presidential candidate in Inyo County. This weekend local residents have scheduled a rally for presidential candidate Barak Obama in Bishop City Park.

When we spoke to event organizer Keri Davis about the rally, she explained that while she believes that Senator John McCain will carry the majority of votes in Inyo County, the main goal of the event is to promote the presidential candidate and to register voters.

In a region with few large political gatherings for either party, Davis says that she is excited to see how many people come. I think it will be great to have signs so that people driving by will see that there are people in this community that support Obama, she says.

Its a political event, but there is a lot more going on as well. Davis explained that there will be live music by the Bluegrass band Idle Hands, along with events for kids. Bishop City Council member Jeff Griffiths is scheduled to be on hand to speak on the local school measure as well as support Obama. Efforts will also be made to register voters. The deadline is October 20th.

This rare rally for a Democratic presidential candidate is scheduled for Saturday between noon and 4:00 pm in Bishop City Park. For more information call 872-7248.
