As of yesterday afternoon, the crews digging at the Barker Ranch hideout of Charles Manson had found no evidence of bodies.

Sheriff Bill Lutze said the heat is stifling and the crews had to order extra water. Inyo Sheriffs deputies, along with officials from Oakridge National Laboratory and the Utah Attorney Generals Cold Case Unit are out in the scorching desert scene at Barker Ranch.

TV satellite trucks could be seen waiting in Independence as the TV networks trade around the privilege of access to Barker Ranch and the dig. Sheriff Lutze has kept a tight control over the scene as the dig moves ahead.

Reporters were permitted to view the scene yesterday afternoon and expected to go back today. Sheriff Lutze said that digging at the first site, as of yesterday afternoon, no evidence had surfaced.
