NIHD honors Nurses for Exceptional Care and Teamwork
2025 DAISY, Good Catch, Mission & Spirit, and Rookie awards
celebrate local nurses who go the extra mile

Northern Inyo Healthcare District (NIHD) honored six outstanding team members this week as part of its 2025 National Nurses Week celebration. These awards highlight nurses who provide exceptional care for patients, protect their safety, and support their co-workers.

Three Labor and Delivery nurses — Alicia Jarvis, Bree Trimble, and a third nurse who asked to remain anonymous — received the 2025 DAISY Award for extraordinary care during a surrogacy birth.

“(We) recently experienced the birth of our child via surrogacy at Northern Inyo,” the nominator wrote. “We could not have experienced any more kind, affirming, incredible care from the entirety of the staff, but especially from (these three nurses). Everyone truly went above-and-beyond, including securing a pack ‘n play for our Airbnb before our return flight home. I will forever brag about this incredible birth experience and nursing staff!”

The DAISY Award began as a national honor for nurses who demonstrated outstanding compassion and dedication to their patients. Created 26 years ago by a family seeking to thank the nurses who cared for their loved one, hospitals around the world now present the award to their nursing teams.

Labor and Delivery Nurse Carol Vujicic received the Good Catch Award for her quick thinking and attention to detail during a routine medication check. Carol preventatively caught a medication error before it reached the patient.

“Carol didn’t just stop there,” her nominator shared. “She took extra steps to ensure the situation would not occur again.”

The Good Catch Award recognizes team members who help protect patients by identifying safety concerns early and taking action.

Corie Miller, a nurse from The Rural Health Clinic, received the Mission and Spirit Award. This honor goes to nurses who reflect NIHD’s mission and core values — lifting others up and treating every patient with consistent kindness and respect.

“I’m nominating Corie because she’s an exemplary nurse who always goes the distance for patients,” her nominator wrote. “She’s magnetic, kind, caring, and absolutely wonderful. I’m always elated when we work the same day because I can count on her if any issues arise. Across departments, Corie upholds NIHD’s standards the most. She’s amazing at what she does, and I’m grateful to work beside her.”

Matt Bertanzetti, a nurse at Specialty Clinic, received Rookie of the Year. This award honors a nurse new to the field or a clinical setting who demonstrates strong dedication, teamwork, and professional growth.

“Matt has shown extreme dedication to learning and understanding new procedures and protocols,” his nominator wrote. “He came in with a strong commitment to good communication and has been a team player from day one. We’ve seen real growth in him over just a few months, and we’re all grateful to have him on our team.”

Allison Partridge, MSN, RN, NIHD’s Chief Operations and Nursing Officer, praised this year’s honorees.

“Nursing is about more than skill — it’s about heart, strength, and service,” Partridge said. “These team members bring all of that to their work, and more. They lead with compassion, pay close attention to detail, and lift the people around them. Their impact reaches far beyond the bedside. We are proud to recognize them and grateful for the example they set for all of us at NIHD.”
