NAWS China Lake North Range Wildfire Extinguished

China Lake, Calif.— Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) China Lake officials announced today that the wildland fire on the installation’s North Range has been fully extinguished. The incident concluded with no reported injuries and no damage to base facilities.

Emergency responders initially dispatched on August 11 to a remote area of the North Range, working around the clock to achieve 100% containment while prioritizing the protection of culturally sensitive areas surrounding Petroglyph Canyon.

“We are deeply grateful for our first responders at the China Lake Federal Fire Department for their diligent work in challenging terrain, which prevented what could have been a catastrophic fire,” said Capt. Warren Van Allen, Commanding Officer at NAWS China Lake. “I also want to thank our entire emergency response team and our mutual aid partners for their professionalism and support during this incident. This response is a testament to the professionals who work every day to keep our installation mission-capable in support of the warfighter.”

The North Range has transitioned back to normal operations. However, as wildfire season continues, base personnel are urged to remain vigilant. Please report any observed smoke or fire immediately to emergency services, and exercise caution when operating near dry brush, which remains highly flammable.
