Sierra Wave received this letter from Bob Heist, Lo-Inyo Middle School Teacher, asking for us to reach out to parents of students in the Lone Pine Unified School District asking for parents (and guardians) to contact the school to let administration know what, if any, concerns or suggestions they have on the school reopening. A Google Translate Spanish-version was included at the bottom of the the letter by Mr. Heist.
Please keep that in mind: Spanish provided by Mr. Heist, not Sierra Wave!

Schools should remain closed during this pandemic. Opening them is a death sentence for anyone with a compromised immune system. It isn’t right.
I graduated from Lo Inyo and LP High, my children and some of my grandchildren have too. I now have a middle school granddaughter who wants to go back to Lo Inyo. We are not sending her back to school in the foreseeable future. If our school can’t even afford or have the fore thought to buy more thermometers, how can we trust them to care for our children and grandchildren ? Kids are germ passing pros.
It is all about money for the schools, bottom line. Students = Money.
I agree with you 100%. Based on your informed evaluation, you are doing best for your family. As a grandparent, we hope for the best for our grandchildren. Yes, they can be exposed at school to the virus and if infected, can pass it on to family members. Consider also their mental health. Young children need the interaction with their peers for social and emotional development. Going to school via computer cannot fulfil their mental health requirements. I don’t know when this virus will be over, maybe when we have a vaccine that is proven effective. I hope we have a better vision to solve this problem.
Grandfather
If you are responding to my comment above,of course I didn’t walk around town polling every Parent on what they plan to do or what they think.
But the Parent’s I do know,it’s a no brainer for them,no matter who “tells” them what they’re supposed to do,local, state or federal.
THEIR decision, and it seems they don’t think it would be safe at this time.
And CERTAINLY not leaving the bottom line decision based on what the so-called “leader” of the country wants and tells them to do,especially since he’s now listening to and taking the advise of a “doctor” that talks about space alien DNA and demons and witches jumping in bed with human beings while they are sleeping.
I did say up to the parents and school. And you can leave the politics out of their decision.
Living in Lone Pine,I don’t know of a single parent that is willing or wanting to send their children back to public schools at this time or anytime soon…don’t matter to them what trump demands to maybe get the economy going again and maybe get him re-elected….bottom line is,it’s up to the PARENTS,not some lying politician barking orders what’s best for their children.
Yes. Up to the parents and the school district to provide safe environment. Have you polled every parent regarding returning or is it just your biased opinion?
