Longtime Mono County resident, Frank E. Axford passed away August 14, in Carson City Nevada.

Frank was born in Los Angeles and joined the Navy during WWII. He was a boxer in the Navy and loved to tell of his exploits while in the service. He was stationed out of San Diego, Calif.

And it was while he was in the service that he met his wife Velma and after several years as a plumber in the LA area he moved his family, a wife and two daughters, to Bishop, Calif. In 1959.

There he worked for Bill Utter and Dick Mush before becoming the first plumbing contractor in Mammoth Lakes, Ca.

He worked on numerous Condo’s, houses and business’ in and around the Mammoth Lakes area.

He and Velma then opened Frank’s Plumbing and Hardware in Mammoth. They also owned and operated Frank’s Liquor and Frank’s Mini Mart. Frank and Velma retired and moved to Coleville, Calif.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Velma. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Ewing, (Michael) Debbie Rupp, (Don) Granddaughters: Michele Graves, Bryanna Rupp and Brittney Rupp. Grandsons: Jimmy Ewing and Robby Ewing and numerous Great Grandchildren
