Local Giving Group Awards Funds to Bishop Elementary School Backpack Program

BISHOP, CA – The Bishop Elementary School Backpack Program has been selected as the latest recipient of collective funding from 100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra, a local giving circle dedicated to making an immediate impact in Inyo and Mono counties.

The program, which provides weekend food to 250 Kindergarten through 6th grade students, was selected following presentations from three local nonprofits during the group’s quarterly meeting.

The Backpack Program, operated under the IBES Parent Teacher Community Organization (PTCO), ensures that students who rely on school meals don’t go hungry over the weekend. Volunteers fill backpacks weekly with healthy, kid-friendly food students take home on Fridays.

“We were incredibly impressed by the scope of the Backpack Program and the dedication of the staff and volunteers,” said Darlene Schuetz, chairperson of 100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra. “This program quietly supports hundreds of children in our community every week. We’re proud to support their efforts.”

At the check presentation, members of the group were able to witness the operation firsthand.

100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra is a group of women pooling resources to create meaningful change in our community. Members commit to donating $100 each quarter to a local nonprofit selected by vote.
