LADWP has CLOSED ALL ACCESS to the Owens River Gorge area, including the Pleasant Valley Control Gorge Patrol Road. Due to the extensive damage to the roadway and hazardous conditions from the recent storms this area is not safe.
We also want to remind folks of high flows in various waterways and locations throughout Inyo County. LADWP has placed signs warning the public of high flows in the Owens River.

This year 2023, and the spring and summer coming, it’s going to be” the year of closures”…..for multiple reasons..
Spring, Summer, it’ll be road closures, campground closures, creek and waterway closures, all due to the fact of dangers of possible fast water, run-off and snow melt..
Next will come Summertime, and probably the same area closures and for the same reasons, along with fire danger closures due to the extra vegetation from all the rain and snow we had .No camping, no campfires, probably no fishing allowed IF the water is still running high and fast, or too much plant growth in certain areas.
Next comes the Fall..
Wind warnings and closures, again due to vegetation growth, wind and fire danger.
And all circling back into late Fall- Winter 2023..
And the usual closures we’re seeing now..
Storm warnings and closures.
Snow, rain, wind warnings and road closures, avalanche warnings and closures.
In the not too long ago age of common sense, we all could somehow find a way to survive all this, without the numerous, DAILY warnings and closures.
But now, this day and age, it’s probably a good idea to issue all this to our visitors and travelers coming up here needing babysitting through storms, weather and obvious problems our area throws upon them.
And then, them onto us living up here.
We can only hope no pandemic comes along again, shutting anything and everything outdoors down like it did in 2020 and what seemed a good part of 2021…
