The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power confirmed Monday that the agency was conducting a controlled burn north of the community of Independence.  The burn sent the smell of smoke into the town.  Winds were mostly calm, and the fire remained controlled.  (Photos by Dennis Mattinson)
