Karen Denise (Oehl) West, age 66, was born on December 18, 1959 in San Bernardino, California. She passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 9, 2026, surrounded by her family.

 

She and her husband, Phillip West III, married May 24, 1980, and together they built a life centered around God, love and family throughout their 46 years of marriage.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Robert Oehl and Peggy Jean Robey, and her older brother, David Oehl.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Phil; her daughter, Sheryl Peña; her son-in-law, Fred Peña; her son, Phillip West IV; her daughter-in-law, Nicole West; her beloved grandchildren, Palin, Logan and Landon; and her twin brother, Karl Oehl.

 

Her family had deep roots in the American West, with both pioneer, Native American ancestry and connections to the transcontinental railroad, Colonel George Armstrong Custer, and Buffalo Bill Cody. This remarkable family history was a meaningful part of her story.

 

Karen will be remembered for her strength, her sense of humor, and the deep love she had for her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

 

Karen’s family would like to thank all those who knew and loved her for their kindness, love, and support.

 

A simple graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 18 at 1 PM at East Line Street Cemetery 2000 Poleta Rd. Bishop, CA. All who knew and loved Karen are welcome to attend.
