Yesterday the Bishop Boys Varsity Basketball team played two games back to back games at home, starting at 10 am and 12 pm.
First up was against Rio Hondo Prep who was kind of in the same boat as us seeing their football team go all the way to state championship in 2AA and having guys still recovering from the long season.
It was a pretty close first half with the Broncos taking a lead into halftime 20-16. Out of the half the Broncos outscored Rio Hondo 17-10 to have a 37-26 going into the fourth quarter. The would hold off Rio Hondo beating them 48-38.
Leading scorers for the Broncos were Will Kemp scoring 13 followed by Carlos Sualez with 9, Emory Dondero had 8 points, Richie Talavera added 6, Dom Dondero and Jakobe Dondero both had 5, and Devaun Mitchell added 2.
The Broncos got a 30 minute break then right back at it against another good team in the Templeton Eagles. Last year the Eagles came to Bishop and beat the Broncos by 15 in a hard fought game.
The Broncos came out fast and took and early lead but that didn’t last long. The Eagles took control and took a lead into halftime 27-21.
The Broncos made the adjustments needed and played a good third quarter outscoring the Eagles 10-8 and trailed by 4 going into the 4th. The Broncos had their best quarter of the game getting the e Eagles in foul trouble and outscoring them 22-3 and taking the win 53-38. Leading the way for the Broncos was Emory Dondero with 16 points, Will Kemp scored 15, Dom Dondero added 8 points, Carlos Sualez with 6, Richie Talavera and Devaun Mitchell both added 3.
Broncos are in Lone Pine this Morning for a game against the Eagles at 10am.
I was really proud of the way our boys played yesterday. Played 2 good teams and doing that on a back to back was impressive. We were able to fix our mistakes with our in game adjustments. It all starts on the defensive end with everyone doing their job and buying into what we are trying to do. We got a good group of boys and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.
Thank you
