August 17, 2026: Living in the world right now is hard. Inflation, food costs, and child care needs are only some of the issues parents and families must deal with as they navigate their modern lives. Inyo County Office of Education (ICOE) has created a tool to help families find their way to the resources and services available here in Inyo County. The Community Compass is a one stop shop for community resources and community events. The Community Compass has all the details on where to find food and household goods assistance, who to turn to for help with housing and utility needs, education and employment information, children and family necessities, and physical and mental health sources.
The brainchild of Superintendent Barry Simpson and the Inyo County Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC), the Community Compass was developed by ICOE after years of public demand, agency requests, and community member input. Utilizing a contribution from the JJC, ICOE staff spent months researching and gathering all the pertinent information for agencies, private providers, non-profits, and tribal organizations so the community could have all the information in one place. Explore the website and use the drop down menus to discover all the website has to offer. According to Simpson, “the goal of the Community Compass is to point families towards local service and support, providing a simple, straightforward way to find the help they need… because when families are supported, students succeed in school and beyond”
In addition to all the resources and service providers on the Community Compass, this website provides the most comprehensive, wide-ranging local family focused event calendar in the valley. Want to know what to do for the weekend, what special happenings are taking place; need to know what activities are available for your teen or your twin 6-year-olds; wondering when those fun nights at the park are taking place or when you need to get your preschooler signed up…the Community Compass is where to go.
Visit the Community Compass at https://compass.inyocoe.org/ or look for the link on the website for your local school. For more information, contact Karen or Serena at 760-873-3262.
