Honoring Our Heroes: EMS Week Shines a Light on Local Volunteers and Their Supportive Employers

As we celebrate National EMS Week (May 18-24, 2025), we take a moment to honor the incredible dedication, courage, and compassion of our local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) volunteers. These everyday heroes provide lifesaving care to our community—often during its most critical moments—without seeking recognition or reward.

This year’s EMS Week theme, “We Care. For Everyone.” highlights the enduring commitment of EMS professionals and volunteers. In Inyo County, our EMS volunteers respond to calls at all hours, juggle demanding schedules, and undergo continuous training to ensure they deliver the highest level of care.

“We are deeply grateful for every volunteer who gives their time, energy, and heart to serve others,” said Anna Scott, Health and Human Services Director. “Their selflessness is the backbone of our emergency response system.”

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the local businesses and employers who support these volunteers—whether by allowing flexible schedules, granting time off during emergencies, or simply encouraging a culture of service. Your partnership makes a critical difference.

Thank You to Our Community Heroes:

  • To the EMTs, paramedics, and first responders—thank you for your service.
  • To the employers who empower them—thank you for your support.
  • And to the families and loved ones—thank you for your sacrifices.

Let’s use this EMS Week to not only recognize their vital contributions, but also to consider how each of us can support the future of EMS in our community.

If you are interested in becoming an EMT, or to find out how you can support your local EMS or Fire Department, please contact your local Volunteer Fire Department or Sierra life Flight.
