Message from Inyo County District Attorney and Press Release.

“Attached, please find a press release primarily prepared by the Tulare County District Attorney’s office regarding the investigation into Health Care Conglomerate Associates—one time operators of Southern Inyo Hospital.

As you all may know, HCCA also operated the Tulare Regional Medical Center in Tulare County.  The vast bulk of the alleged wrong-doing involved operations in Tulare County, but the investigation led to alleged crimes in Inyo County.  Tulare DA Tim Ward has kept me advised regarding the investigation since its inception, and I have given his office permission to prosecute alleged Inyo County wrong-doing in Tulare County (as allowed under California Law).

By way of comparison, the Tulare County DA’s office is staffed with 66 Deputy DAs and 40 Criminal Investigators.  Inyo County has 4 Attorneys and 2 Criminal Investigators.  I am very grateful that Tulare County followed the leads into Inyo County, brought my office into the process (including a nearly day-long briefing in Visalia) and agreed to prosecute Inyo allegations in its case.  Inyo County simply does not have the resources that Tulare was able to bring to this very complex investigation.

The press release references the “Zero Dollar” bail schedule.  That  schedule is still in effect in Tulare County, but the standard bail schedule is back in effect in Inyo.”
