At last word, a 38-year-old Auburn, California man who suffered multiple gunshot wounds during an incident in Cartago, was still hospitalized and alive at Loma Linda.
In a press release, Detective Jeff Hollowell said that just after 8am Tuesday morning, a call came in to the Sheriff’s Dispatch of a shooting. The initial report said that one person had been shot and that the suspect was still on scene. Numerous patrol cars with lights flashing were seen rushing south on 395.
Before deputies arrived on scene in Cartago, the victim was transported to Southern Inyo Hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, was later flown to Loma Linda Hospital due to the extent of his injuries.
Another man, 58 years old from Maricopa, California, was transported to Southern Inyo Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Sheriff’s investigators questioned that man and released him. That did not say if he were the suspect. Officers did say that based on interviews conducted Tuesday, no charges have been requested at this time. Earlier officers had said that this incident did involve an altercation in which one person shot another. Yesterday morning, officers reported that they had a suspect in custody, but the late afternoon press release indicated no charges and no arrest.
The investigation is ongoing and officers declined to release any more details at this time. Investigators do ask that if anyone has information regarding the case, call the Sheriff’s Department at 876-5606 or 878-0383.
