The Mammoth Fire Department was called out Friday afternoon after a backhoe nicked a two inch gas line at the Manzanita workforce housing project, causing a brief evacuation of some of the neighbors.mammoth_fire_gas_leak_.jpg

Mammoth Fire Captain Thom Heller reports that some residents on Mono Street, downwind of the gas leak, were evacuated after the incident. He says that the firefighters quickly clamped off the pipe before the utility company turned the gas down.

Captain Heller wanted to remind people to call their utility company before they dig whether it's with a shovel or a backhoe to make sure that the utility company has marked out their utility lines.
