Bishop Volunteer Firefighters responded to two separate fires over the weekend.
Bishop Fire Chief Ray Seguine reports that there were a lot of illegal fireworks going off in the night sky over the Bishop area this past week.
The first fire, just before midnight on Friday, was caused by illegal fireworks. Chief Seguine reports that Friday night, the fire at Winuba and West Line Street engulfed two trees. Two nearby structures were threatened by this blaze that Seguine reports was started by illegal fireworks. Fire Fighters cleared the scene by 3:00 am.
The second fire, Sunday afternoon, was off Barlow Lane along Bishop Creek. Seguine reports that witnesses saw five juvenile males go into the area then leave on scooters and bikes right before the flames went up.
With little wind to spread the fire through the dense (but green) fuels, firefighters were able to keep the blaze contained to a fifty foot radius. No buildings were damaged by this fire. Chief Seguine says that he gathered some evidence at the scene and that investigations into this fire continue.
