Firefighters fully contain Dry fire at 100%
Bishop, Calif., July 1, 2025 – Due to the diligent work of firefighters, the 15-acre Dry Fire reached 100% containment last night on Monday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. Despite increasing winds and warm temperatures over the weekend, firefighters continued to strengthen control lines by extinguishing or mopping up any remaining hot spots.
Incident responders were also successful in limiting impacts to Highway 395 and Southern California Edison transmission lines near the fire. There were no injuries on the incident.
Firefighters will continue checking the fire footprint until it is declared “out” which may not happen until significant enough precipitation occurs.
There are no forest or road closures in effect. This fire remains under investigation.
The Dry Fire ignited at approximately 4:19 p.m., located just southwest of the Caltrans Crestview Rest Stop, south of Owens River Road and north of Mammoth Scenic Loop Road. Due to the quick work of ground and air firefighting resources, the forward rate of spread was stopped approximately four hours later. No evacuations were issued, however Highway 395 was temporarily shut down in both directions in the area. At the height of the incident, approximately 174 personnel were on scene of this fire.
The Inyo National Forest would like to recognize the efforts of firefighting resources from other nearby Forests, Bureau of Land Management, CAL FIRE, Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, Long Valley Fire Department, and an Inyo County strike team comprised of Bishop, Big Pine, Lone Pine, and Independence Volunteer Fire Departments who assisted.
