On 04/23/2026 at approximately 08:34 PM, during hours of darkness, a fatal crash occurred within unincorporated Inyo County.

For unknown reasons, a pedestrian was standing and facing a southerly direction in the #1 lane of southbound US-395, just north of Schober Lane. A Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound on US-395 in the #1 lane at approximately 35 mph, approaching the pedestrians location. While the pedestrian was standing in the #1 lane, he was struck by the Toyota. The pedestrian sustained immediate fatal injuries. The occupants of the Toyota notified law enforcement and remained on scene.

Personnel from Sierra Life Flight arrived on scene. Sierra Life Flight announced the pedestrian deceased due to injuries suffered from the crash.

The identification of the involved party will be released through Brune Mortuary Office, after notification of next of kin has been made. This crash is under investigation by the CHP, Bishop Area.
