10/19/2020 – The Eastern Sierra Foundation (ESF) Board voted to approve an expansion of their scholarship program to support more Inyo County residents who are seeking to further their education through Cerro Coso Community College. One hundred new scholarships are now available for all Inyo County residents who enroll for the Spring 2021 semester at Cerro Coso Community College. Since the college will be offering a largely online program in the spring due to COVID-19, ESF will be covering the cost of online as well as on-ground courses.
The foundation also recognizes that COVID has brought many Inyo residents additional challenges, which may make attending college full-time challenging. Thus, the ESF is also waiving the 12-unit minimum; applicants enrolled in only one course will be eligible for a scholarship this spring.
“As colleges move to online-only classes for instruction, additional concerns arise about the focus on education,” said Julie Faber, ESF President. “The board of the Eastern Sierra Foundation is committed to supporting higher education. This may be the push you need to get that final credit to transfer, or finish your AA, or just simply learn a new skill. Whatever your motivation, we know that education is the key to success, and ultimately we want to see our community succeed.”
Open registration for Cerro Coso’s Spring 2021 semester begins November 19th. Scholarship applications are available online at https://www.easternsierrafoundation.org. All Inyo County residents enrolled in at least one Cerro Coso course are eligible. The scholarship application deadline is Thursday, December 17th at 5PM. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis up to 100 scholarships or while funds are available.
