LADWP to Meet with Select Groups on Solar
By Charles James
The Assistant Director of Power System Planning and Development, Michael Webster, along with a member of his staff, Yamen Nanne, will be meeting with local chambers of commerce, school officials, tribal offices, the National Park Service and others while in the area on Thursday and Friday this week to discuss the Southern Owens Valley Solar Ranch Project. Their purpose is to discuss the following:
• The objective of the project and how it fits into the overall Integrated Resource Plan of the Power System
• The location, schedule and technology of the system and how it will look like in terms of aesthetic impacts
• The local economic development benefits of the project for Owens Valley businesses and the potential for local residents
• Hear concerns that the local groups may have about the project
This is not related to the letter discussed at Tuesday’s Inyo County Board of Supervisors inviting LADWP to visit the area and to attend a Board meeting for the public on the project, but rather an opportunity for the department to reach out first to selected groups in the area. Whether or not LADWP will respond positively to the Board of Supervisors invitation, which has yet to be sent, is not known.
