Diane Adelle Nicholson 1933-2025

Diane was born July 7ᵗʰ, 1933 in Los Angeles, CA. A
beloved mother of four daughters, Peggy Roberts of Southern California, Jayne Pombo of Northern
California, Mary Ward of New Hampshire previously Bishop, and Sharon Sears of Bishop, six
grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. She graduated from Laguna Beach High School and Orange
Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA. She retired as a personal banking officer for Wells Fargo in 1982.
Diane and Curt Nicholson were married 16 years. They enjoyed traveling and retirement until his
passing in 1992. The following year she moved to their

vacation home in Bishop, CA along with her daughter Mary and new grandson Daniel, where they all
resided for the next 26 years.
Diane was a light to many people in Bishop, her loving heart helped people here in many ways. She
loved her beautiful mountain town in Bishop and flourished here. She loved serving in the community
in different ways including being Vice President of the VFW Auxiliary and Gold Circle supporter
with 72 years as a lifetime Auxiliary member. She loved the Veterans! Her other membership
involvements included the AARP Chapter, Bishop Elks Lodge, Bishop Community Concerts Association,
Queen Mum of the Red Hat Society, and was President of the Women’s Golf Club. She loved all at the
Bishop Country Club too!

She was one of the original members of the Lunch Bunch group and she was an avid supporter of Play
House 395 in Bishop. She enjoyed being involved with bingo at the Senior Center and helped whenever
needed. She was a changemaker and notably was the lady who changed the Elks Lodge to allow women to
join. She volunteered in many events at the Elks Lodge, at Churches, and the VFW for breakfast as
well as Thanksgiving dinners with her daughters and grandchildren.

The last time Diane played golf (at age 85) was with her daughter, Sharon. Her motto was “Have golf
clubs will travel” and indeed she did travel all over the world including St. Andrews in Scotland,
Ireland, England, New Zealand, Africa, Fiji, Bermuda, Mexico, Australia, and Hawaii. She loved to
travel just about anywhere and enjoyed family cruises. Her card and game skills were tough to beat
and she was a member of the Pinnacle group and Sierra Singles.
Diane was courageous and adventurous, demonstrated by her choice to go to flight school. She said
the day she flew a plane solo was one of the best days of her life. She truly was a free spirit at
heart. She loved to have fun and be silly sometimes, such as dressing up with fabulous outfits for
Halloween theme parties and holidays. She hosted themed parties as well including her Hawaiian
party. One time she was having a party and it started snowing, then people began calling her to
cancel as they thought they couldn’t make it in the snow. But she didn’t let that stop the party,
she said “I have way too much food, I’m coming to get you!” She got in her 4Runner and picked up
people in groups, even making multiple trips, and brought them to the party where they had a great
time, then took them home after. She truly was a social butterfly and always made an effort to
include people in her fun activities.

There are many wonderful words that describe Diane and
her impact on people’s lives while she was here. She was very fun, joyful, active, loving,
compassionate, and had an adventurous soul. Her faith in Jesus was apparent and beautiful. She was
so much more than a great mom, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was truly an amazing person,
best friend to many, great travel partner, and a shining example of how to care about others.
Diane was laid to rest in Corona Del Mar, CA, besides her husband, Curt.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life for Diane that will be held at the back of Bishop Park at
the rear Pavillion on April 27ᵗʰ at 1:00pm.
Rest in peace Diane, we love you dearly.Diane Adele Nicholson
