Community Celebration: Bishop Community Garden Marks Completion of Major Expansion and Enhancement Project

BISHOP, CA — Members of the public are invited to a Community Celebration on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, celebrating the successful completion of the Expansion and Enhancement Project at the Bishop Community Garden.

The event will take place at the Bishop Community Garden, located directly behind the City Park. Attendees are advised to park on Spruce Street near the Senior Center and follow the Pine to Park Pathway south to the garden.

A Toast to Community Collaboration

The celebration is a formal thank-you to the many individuals, businesses, and volunteers who contributed their valuable time, labor, and products to support both the Bishop Community Garden and the City of Bishop in bringing this major project to fruition. To mark the occasion, the Bishop Chamber of Commerce will be providing complimentary root beer floats for a community-wide toast to this collaborative achievement.

Driven by the Community, Funded for the Future

Day-to-day operations at the Bishop Community Garden are powered entirely by local dedication, with 98% of the coordination—including all infrastructure monitoring and administrative tasks—handled entirely by volunteers.

Over the past three years, local volunteers have poured literally thousands of extra hours into this project. The expansion was made possible through a $138,000+ grant from the California Natural Resources Agency’s Urban Greening Grant program, maximizing community effort with vital state funding.

Growing Together

“We appreciate those who visit the garden for its beauty, relaxation, and guidance for their own landscapes,” said the garden’s leadership. “We applaud those who rent plots at the garden as a personal space to grow produce and flowers while enjoying and growing community. Most importantly, we sincerely thank all of you who created, supported, and worked day after day to utilize the grant funding and turn Bishop Community Garden into the magical place it is today.”
