Caltrans Street Sweeper in involved in collision

On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at approximately 11:20 AM, the California Highway Patrol reported that the driver of a 2006 Dodge Caravan was traveling westbound on SR-178, east of Chicago Valley Road, and within a Caltrans highway construction zone, while at the same time, a Caltrans employee was driving a Caltrans highway construction vehicle (sweeper) westbound on SR-178, ahead of the Dodge Caravan.

A collision occurred when the front of the Dodge Caravan struck the rear of the sweeper, causing major damage to both vehicles and major injuries to both drivers.

The Inland Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the collision scene to assist with the investigation.

SR-178 was closed for an extended amount of time due to the collision investigation. The cause of this collision is still under investigation by Bishop CHP.
