Mammoth schools face the same challenges as many others – enough money, good test scores, language barriers and the future of the charter school.

After the November election, two new school board members will jump into the mix. Four board vacancies opened up the field. Incumbent board members Mary Canada and Greg Newbry signed up to run again for their 4 year terms. No other candidates challenged them so they will be appointed to those seats.

It’s a different story on the two two-year terms. Incumbents Joe Bottom and Gwen Davis did not try for their seats again, but three other people did.

Jack Farrell, John Trujillo and Gloria Vasquez will run for two seats.

For those concerned about the future of Mammoth schools, a Meet the School Board Candidates night happens Wednesday. It’s a public forum in which citizens can ask questions of the three candidates we mentioned.

Superintendent Frank Romero will moderate. That forum takes place Wednesday night at 6pm at the Mammoth High School Library.
