395 hwy sign buried in snow

Caltrans video chronicles the daily workload of road workers during a severe snowstorm.

BISHOP – The first major winter storm of 2021 brought plenty of snow and blizzard-like conditions to eastern Kern, Inyo, and Mono counties. Major arteries shut down due to the sheer volume of snowfall, and maintenance crews from Caltrans District 9 went into around-the-clock rotations as they worked against Mother Nature to reopen roads for travelers.

For more than a week, the District 9 Public Information Office shared maintenance pictures and videos of Caltrans’ snow removal efforts. Today, it released a video compiling those images into a video montage that will walk viewers through each day of this massive storm.

[Dear Sierra Wave Readers and Listeners: This is a fun watch. It’s almost unimaginable the amount of snow that had to be removed from the highways and roads from the recent snowstorm, but these Caltrans folks did it! On behalf of Sierra Wave and the rest of us that use the roads, THANK YOU, CALTRANS’ WORKERS!!
