Traffic Advisory for the Week of 8/3/2026 to 8/7/2026

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of August 3 – August 7.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

Mono County

·    Mammoth Airport Utility Work – On U.S. 395 just north of Benton Crossing Road, there will be intermittent traffic breaks while utility crews replace poles on Monday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·    Conway Summit Utility Work – On U.S. 395 approximately 2 miles south of State Route 270 (Bodie Road), there will be intermittent traffic breaks while utility crews replace poles Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

·    Bridgeport Pavement Work – On State Route 182 from U.S. 395 to approximately 1.5 miles north of the Bridgeport Reservoir dam, crews will grind and rehabilitate the pavement Monday through Saturday, August 8 from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers will experience 5-minute delays.

·    Bridgeport Utility Work – On U.S. 395 from State Route 182 to just north of Emigrant Street, there will be intermittent traffic breaks while utility crews replace poles Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

·    Kern River Valley Sign Work – On State Route 178 W from Kelso Valley Road to State Route 14 near Inyokern, crews continue to install new traffic signs Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will be intermittent one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Inyo County

·    Bishop Pavement Project – The southbound outside lane of U.S. 395 between Academy Avenue and Line Street is closed for electrical work. Academy Avenue and Church Street are scheduled to be paved on Wednesday. McIver Street will be fully closed from U.S. 395 for pedestrian bulbout and rapid flashing beacon construction.  State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) will reopen between U.S. 395 and Warren Street this weekend, but it will still be subject to intermittent closures while the City of Bishop replaces its water lines. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph from See Vee Lane to Wye Road. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·    City of Bishop Water Main Replacement Project – On State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) from Warren Street to U.S. 395, the road will fully close intermittently while the City of Bishop replaces its water line. There will be temporary lane closures from Red Hill Road to Pioneer Lane as well. State Route 168 E from U.S. 395 to a half mile east near Big Pine will experience intermittent lane closures as well. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Detours are available.

·    Manzanar Pavement Project – On U.S. 395 from Fish Hatchery Road near the Fort Independence Reservation to 2.5 miles south of the Manzanar National Historic Site, crews are rehabilitating the pavement, constructing pedestrian bulbouts in Independence, and installing a flashing pedestrian beacon with a mast arm at Market Street. All traffic has switched to the new northbound lanes using a temporary crossover about two miles south of Manzanar while crews rehabilitate the southbound lanes. One lane in each direction is closed in town and turns onto several cross streets are unavailable from U.S. 395. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and 25 mph within Independence. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience delays.

·    Lone Pine Sidewalks Project – On U.S. 395 in Lone Pine, the outside lane and shoulders in both directions are closed while crews build sidewalks and replace drainage infrastructure in the following locations:

·    From Teya Road to Inyo Street,

·    From Locust Road to E. Lubken Avenue.

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Mono County

·    Rock Creek Pavement Project – On U.S. 395 near Tom’s Place, crews are constructing new lighting at the Tom’s Place intersection. There will be intermittent lane closures and drivers may experience brief delays. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

·    Mammoth Lakes Tree Work – On State Route 203 from Forest Trail to U.S. 395, crews will continue to trim trees Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

The Manzanar Pavement Project received $44.64 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $18.36 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change. The Manzanar Pavement Project received $5.78 million, the Bishop Pavement Project received $2.4 million, and the Rock Creek Pavement Project received $2.1 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
