Traffic Advisory for the Week of 12/2/2024 – 12/6/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of December 2 – December 6.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

 

New Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     Ridgecrest Sidewalk Work – On State Route 178 E from Gateway Boulevard to Gold Canyon Street, the westbound shoulder will close while crews perform sidewalk, curb, and gutter work Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

·     Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E from Ward Avenue to W. Graaf Avenue, the westbound outside lane and shoulder will close while utility crews repair infrastructure in the shoulder Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·     Tehachapi Utility Work – On State Route 202 between Sage Lane and Tucker Road, the westbound shoulder will close while utility crews place conduit and fiber optic cable Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

·     Mojave Guardrail Repair – Crews will repair guardrail in the following locations near Mojave:

·     On the southbound shoulder of State Route 14 between State Route 58 and California City Boulevard

·     On the westbound on-ramp to State Route 58 from southbound State Route 14

·     On the westbound shoulder of State Route 58 from State Route 14 to Exit 172.

Work is scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

·     Weldon Utility Work – On State Route 178 W between Oliver Lane and Scodie Lane, utility crews will replace a pole and pull wires across the road on Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

 

Inyo County

·     Main Street Fiber Optic Work – On U.S. 395 from Sierra Street to Horace Albright Avenue in Bishop, the southbound outside lane and bike lane will close while utility crews work with fiber optic cable. Work is scheduled Tuesday through Thursday overnight from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.

·     Brockman Lane Electrical Work – On U.S. 395 near Brockman Lane in Bishop, there will be electrical work on Monday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

·     Bishop Christmas Parade – On U.S. 395 from Schober Lane to Sierra Street in Bishop, there will be a Christmas parade on Saturday, December 7. The road will be closed from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Detours will be available.

 

Mono County

·     Benton Utility Work – On State Route 120 E (Mono Mills Road) between Foothill Road and Clark Ranch Road, utility crews will replace poles on Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.

 

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     Cache Creek/Keene Scales CMS Project – On State Route 58 near Hart Flat Road at Exit 137 west of Tehachapi, the westbound shoulder will close while crews construct changeable message signs. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

·     China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound outside lane is closed while crews replace a water main Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. The outside lane will reopen after work hours and the shoulder will close at night.

 

Inyo County

·     Olancha-Cartago Northbound Traffic Switch – Northbound traffic now runs on the new northbound lanes of U.S. 395 within the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project area. Traffic remains in the new alignment until just south of Crystal Geyser Road, where through traffic will use the left lane to continue north toward Lone Pine and Bishop, while drivers looking to access Olancha, Cartago, and State Route 190 to Death Valley will use the right lane to head east. Drivers are advised to follow the directions posted on highway signs. Southbound traffic remains in its current traffic pattern. The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the traffic switches and 55 mph through the project area. ·     Olancha Shoulder Closures – On U.S. 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Death Valley Flood Damage Repair – On State Route 190 near 20 Mule Team Road east of Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park, crews will continue flood damage repairs Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
