Traffic Advisory for the Week of 11/18/2024 – 11/22/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of November 18 – November 22.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

 

New Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     Canebrake Pole Replacement – On State Route 178 W just west of Alta Vista Way, utility crews will replace a pole and transfer wire across the road on Sunday, November 17 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. There will be intermittent lane closures and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

·     Tehachapi Traffic Camera Installation – On State Route 202 (Tucker Road) from State Route 58 to Lonely Lane, crews will install traffic cameras on Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

·     Onyx Pole Replacement – On State Route 178 W between Doyle Ranch Road and Southfork Lane, utility crews will replace poles and cross wire over the road on Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be intermittent lane closures and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

 

Inyo County

·     Olancha-Cartago Northbound Traffic Switch – Northbound traffic will be directed onto the new northbound lanes of U.S. 395 at the southern end of the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project area on Tuesday. It will then switch onto the inside southbound lane just south of Crystal Geyser Road. Northbound traffic looking to access Olancha, Cartago, and State Route 190 can use the newly constructed Crystal Geyser Road. Southbound traffic will remain in its current traffic pattern. The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the traffic switches and 55 mph through the project area. ·     Bishop Holiday Decorations – On U.S. 395 between South Street and Sierra Street, the outside lane in both directions will close while crews install holiday decorations on Tuesday from 9:00 am to noon. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Mono County

·     The Trees Utility Foundation Work – On U.S. 395 from Mammoth Scenic Loop to Owens River Road, utility crews will shore up foundations for the winter season Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Lee Vining Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 between Lee Vining Avenue and 4th Street, the outside lanes in both directions will close while utility crews replace a pole and conductor Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·     The Trees Shoulder Work – On U.S. 395 from State Route 203 (Mammoth Lakes) to Sawmill Cutoff Road, the northbound outside lane and shoulder will close while crews work in the shoulders on Tuesday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·     Mammoth Lakes Traffic Camera Installation – On State Route 203 from Old Mammoth Road to just east of Meridian Boulevard, crews will install traffic cameras Thursday and Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

·     Mammoth Lakes Mowing – On State Route 203 from Lake Mary Road to Forest Trail, crews will mow the shoulders Thursday and Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

·     Bridgeport Reservoir Utility Work – On State Route 182 near the Bridgeport Reservoir Campground, utility crews will cross wire over the road on Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be intermittent traffic breaks and drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     State Route 58 Shoulder Signs – On State Route 58 from Exit 172 to Hyundai-Kia Boulevard east of Mojave, there are signs in the westbound shoulder warning of work off the pavement Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

·     Cache Creek/Keene Scales CMS Project – On State Route 58 near the CHP Truck Scales west of State Route 14, the westbound outside lane and shoulder will close while crews construct changeable message signs. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

·     Ridgecrest Sidewalk Work – On State Route 178 E from Gateway Boulevard to Gold Canyon Street, the westbound shoulder is closed while crews perform sidewalk, curb, and gutter work Tuesday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

·     China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound outside lane is closed while crews replace a water main Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. The outside lane will reopen after work hours and the shoulder will close at night.

 

Inyo County

·     Olancha Shoulder Closures – On U.S. 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Death Valley Flood Damage Repair – On State Route 190 near 20 Mule Team Road east of Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park, crews continue flood damage repairs Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

 

Mono County

·     Highpoint Rockfall Repair – On U.S. 395 from 1.5 miles north of State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) to one mile south of the Nevada State Line along Topaz Lake, crews continue to repair a damaged rockfall protection system Monday through Saturday from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.

San Bernardino County (District 9 maintains State Route 127 in San Bernardino County in coordination with District 8)

·     Baker Utility Work – On State Route 127 from Interstate 15 to Schoolhouse Lane, county crews have placed traffic control devices in the shoulders. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The Highpoint Rockfall Repair Project received $2.001 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
