BUHS Mathletes have been on fire this year! We are halfway through the season with 3 victories for Varsity and 3 more Meets to come. JV has had 2 Meets coming in first for one and second for the other but first overall. Wow, what a start it has been! The Varsity team has 7 seniors including Cooper Beard, Jodie Bedore, Ellie Crall, Hunter Dermody, Jordan Lemons, Sydney Norcross, and captain Alyssa Buchholz along with 10 Juniors including Josef Borow, Bryce Cokeley, Taylor Currie, Kano Graves, Donovan Mondragon, Teagan Orr, Ari Rager, Ben Rowan and captains Sydney Wilson and Caleb Fitt. The JV team’s 12 sophomores include Scarlett Buchholz, Bram Crall, Reagan Dermody, Sydney Garcia, Clare Haverstock, Amaya Hays, Granite Puhvel, Tatum Swanson, Wayland Schultz, Alexis Solorio, Ruby Vandehoven and captain Adan Perez along with 2 Freshman, Kevin Rivas and captain Santi Lopez.

The Varsity team this year is tenacious! They have swallowed up each team this year with massive wins! They have had 3 Meets, taken home 3 first place finishes, earned 15 individual ribbons with 2 Perfect Scores as a cherry on top by Alyssa Buchholz and Cooper Beard. Man, they are such a strong team with so much depth!

The JV Team is green but strong! Last year’s 5 Freshman Mathletes have returned this year in peak form while mentoring the 9 newbies through an untraveled yet glorious world of High School Math Competion. Success! In just 2 Meets, the JV team brought home second and first place, earned 8 individual ribbons and celebrated a top score of 8 points by rookie Granite Puhvel. Bishop JV Mathletes leads the league in overall points clenching their current title of first place and are growing stronger with each practice we have.

Through the sweat of tryouts back in August, these kids landed themselves on a team that shows off their math skills, attention to detail and competitiveness. We practice together, eat together, travel to far off schools together and oddly enough, have picked up playing Spikeball together, which by the way we could use a few more if anyone out there wants to donate! We’d like to thank LADWP for supporting Mathletes in the Adopt-a-School Program along with BUHS administrators Forsman and Quintana and BUSD faculty for their continued support over the years. We hear you Bishop Community, so keep cheering us on and encouraging these teenagers…they truly are exceptional!
