The Boys Varsity Basketball team traveled to Rosamond last night to take on the Roadrunners in a crucial High Desert League matchup. Both teams entered the game with identical 8–3 league records, tied for second place, with playoff seeding on the line.
It was one of the fastest-paced games the Broncos have played this season. Bishop jumped out to an early lead and held a 36–25 advantage at halftime. The second half turned into a back-and-forth battle, with neither team willing to give an inch. The lead changed hands multiple times in the fourth quarter, and the game was tied at the buzzer, forcing overtime.
The intensity only ramped up in overtime, as both teams traded baskets. The Broncos held a slim lead with just three seconds remaining when Rosamond connected on a long pass and hit a tough shot to send the game into double overtime. In the second extra period, Bishop took control, locking down defensively, forcing multiple turnovers, and outscoring Rosamond 11–2 to secure a hard-fought 67–58 victory.
Leading the way for the Broncos was Will Kemp with 18 points, followed closely by Dom Dondero with 17 and Carlos Suarez with 16. Emory Dondero added 6 points, Devaun Mitchell chipped in 5, Jakobe Dondero scored 3, and Richie Talavera added 2.
The Broncos return home Friday night to face the Desert Scorpions and will close out the regular season at home on Tuesday against the Cal City Ravens.
