Bishop Union Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season against Cal City

 

The Bishop Union High School track & field team closed out its regular season with a strong overall performance at the Cal City Dual, highlighted by a dominant boys team victory and a narrow, hard-fought finish on the girls side.

 

The Bronco boys earned a convincing 90.5–27.5 victory, finishing the regular season with an impressive 5–1 record. The Bishop girls competed well across all events but came up just short, falling 49–46 to finish 4–2 on the season.

 

🟣 Boys Showcase Depth Across the Board

Bishop’s boys delivered a complete team performance, scoring in nearly every event and sweeping the distance races to power the team victory.

 

In the sprints, (Fr) Oscar Henriquez placed third in the 100 meters (12.00), while (So) Tosa Schultz added a third-place finish in the 200 (26.9) and a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles (20.5).

 

The 400 meters proved to be a major scoring event. (Sr) Caleb Fitt led the way with a win in 1:00.9, followed by (Fr) Cosmo Schwartz (1:01.2) and (Fr) Kavin Freeman (1:02.9), completing a Bishop sweep.

 

Fitt continued his standout day in the 800 meters, winning in 2:54.5. He was backed by (Fr) Caleb Chytka (2:55.8) and (Fr) Riplee Wagner (3:10.6), as Bishop swept the event.

 

The distance crew dominated both the 1600 and 3200 meters. (Jr) Tyler Norcross won both races (5:37.5 / 12:41.7), followed by (So) Brandon Walters (5:51.8 / 12:57.7) and (So) Cuinn Green (5:53.7 / 12:58.1), who placed second and third in each.

 

In the hurdles, (Jr) Soren Davis captured first in the 110-meter hurdles (18.2), with Schultz finishing second. Fitt added another victory in the 300-meter hurdles (51.4), capping off an impressive all-around performance.

 

The 4×400 relay team of (Sr) Caleb Fitt, (So) Zavion Cokeley, (Jr) Tyler Norcross, and (So) Lucas Turner finished first in 4:48.4.

 

In the field events, (So) Wyatt Miears led the way with wins in both the shot put (48’7”) and discus (165’3”). (Sr) Michael Spratt placed second in the shot put (38’10”), followed by (Sr) Carlos Sualez in third (38’2.5”). In the discus, Sualez added a second-place finish (122’10”), while (Sr) Tavien Davis took third (114’5”).

 

The high jump saw another strong showing, as (So) Brandon Walters cleared 5’2” to take first. (So) Cuinn Green followed in second (5’0”), and (Fr) Cosmo Schwartz placed third (4’10”).

 

Bishop also dominated the horizontal jumps. (So) Hunter Dailey won both the long jump (18’0.5”) and triple jump (41’1”), while (So) Brady Johnson (16’3”) and (Jr) Angel Lopez (15’4”) placed second and third in the long jump.

 

🔵 Girls Battle to the Finish

The Bishop girls turned in a strong team effort, coming up just three points short in a competitive meet.

 

On the track, (Jr) Madyn Weller placed second in the 100 meters (14.00) and went on to win both the long jump (13’6.5”) and triple jump (30’4”).

 

(Fr) Ellie O’Neill added a second-place finish in the 200 meters (29.9) and third in the 400 (1:09.6), while (Jr) Clare Haverstock placed second in the 400 (1:09.2) and won the 800 meters (3:05.6).

 

The Bishop 4×100 relay team of (Jr) Madyn Weller, (Jr) Amaya Hays, (Fr) Ellie Solomon, and (Fr) Ellie O’Neill took first in 55.7.

 

In the field events, (So) Isabela Alarcon placed third in the shot put (18’7”). In the discus, (Fr) Mia Peek finished second (59’10”), and (Fr) Tempy Gruwell placed third (46’6”).

 

The high jump was another highlight, with (Fr) Ellie Solomon winning at 4’2” and (Jr) Amaya Hays placing second at 4’0”.

 

In the long jump, Weller added another victory, while (So) Julia Hoang placed second (11’2”).

 

📅 Up Next: HDL Championships

Bishop Union now turns its focus to the HDL Championships, which will be held on Wednesday, May 6th at 3:00 PM at the Whitmore Track.
