Bishop Sunrise Rotary Launches Global Peacebuilding Project in Colombia

Bishop, CA — The Rotary Club of Bishop Sunrise has launched a new international peacebuilding initiative in partnership with the Rotary Club of Bogotá and the Colombian organization Resuena, aimed at strengthening communities affected by decades of armed conflict in Colombia.

The project, Pollinators for Peace: Weaving Networks to Make the Transition Towards Peace will focus on everyday peacebuilding, restorative justice, and conflict prevention. Through a 1.5‑year “training for trainers” program, 60 community leaders from both rural and urban regions will receive advanced training in Nonviolent Communication and restorative conflict management.

After completing the program, these leaders will return to their communities as “multipliers,” leading workshops and activities that are expected to reach more than 9,000 people. The goal is to foster peaceful coexistence, strengthen local leadership, and support Colombia’s ongoing transition toward lasting peace.

The $200,000 project is being developed as a Rotary Foundation Global Grant, allowing contributions to be matched and significantly increasing the project’s impact. The initiative aligns with Rotary International’s focus on Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention.

“Our club is proud to support local leaders who are building peace from the ground up,” said Jacob Eide of the Bishop Sunrise Rotary Club. “This project invests in people who will carry these skills forward long after the grant period ends.”
