Bishop Police Department provided this Supplemental Release # 2 on the decedent from the January 6 incident:
Earlier this week a forensic examination was completed in Orange County on the decedent. A BPD Detective and a District Attorney Investigator were present as a matter of routine. The findings were consistent with what was presented to BPD during the early stages of the investigation. The decedent was subsequently positively identified as William Harold Blankenship, 55 years of age, from Kern County.
Decedent Blankenship had a long history of criminal involvement. Charges and convictions are a matter of public record and, in this instance, show a pattern of violent crime. He had been placed on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) but soon thereafter absconded and an arrest warrant was issued.
BPD continues to investigate striving to be objective, thorough, and complete while keeping the public informed as much as reasonably possible. To avoid unintentionally hindering our investigation, we are respectfully requesting that responses to our social media updates remain appropriate. We are also discouraging self-initiated sleuthing and postings as doing so could also unintentionally cause harm to those still investigating. All inquiries and tips should be directed only to BPD
We thank Bishop Police for their updates.

What is the prognosis of the “Good Guy with a gun” ? Hope for a swift recovery and a medal for his actions . The world is a better place thanks to you.
janet….if your refering to the woman that was involved in this incident as someone that had to “endure” and was “forced by this man” to do anything,we really don’t know if that was the case…she might have been a willing participant to this crime and others in their possible life of crime…we’ll probably never know the whole truth to that,a good bet as the survivor in this mess with him,and now with him being gone,I’m sure she’ll be saying she was forced to go along with him and things..but maybe her own past will show the truth…we all know the type that are drawn to,and sometimes seek-out the “bad boys” and that lifestyle..But I do agree with what you said there at the end of your post…if his end wasn’t met here in Bishop,a very good chance he would’ve kept up his criminal ways, and a good bet would’ve killed some innocent person somewhere, maybe even right here in the Owens Valley..
Nobody knows what she endured being forced by that man, he is a convicted murderer and a member of a very influential group. He was a psycho. I would like to thank the victim in this case…..
Hey Janet, The chick has a tattoo on her neck. Have you heard the old saying “if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck…. its a duck”. She ran away after her old man got shot, why didn’t she run towards help (cops)? Innocent people besides the car-jack victim could have been struck by stray bullets and killed. Get real, neither one of those two criminals was a bad influence on the other, they were together because they had similiar lifestyles.
If you weren’t there , it’s pretty safe to say you have know idea what you are talking about.
Gosh, and here we were all believing that one post that earlier stated this guy was a fine upstanding citizen,a good man on the right side of the law that had been “led astray” by the female companion, leading up to the confrontation..

No government agency in America should ever find itself penning such condescending garbage. Most of us are not children and do not require a government nanny to warn us about “appropriate” speech. As to the few who lack awareness of what is “appropriate”, apparently one or two are employed by BPD.
How did these felons get guns. If only we had more laws to prevent this. The good guy has to get a permit to defend himself with a gun in public.
